Introduction

Bachelor Program in Pharmaceutical Botanicals & Health Applications was founded in 2016 to be in line with the national development policy. It is the first undergraduate program focused on plant-based medicine in the system of Technological and Vocational Higher Education in Taiwan. This program is a step toward educating interdisciplinary professionals about incorporating plant-based nutrition, cosmetics and biotechnology into their practice. In order to cultivate advanced competence in the field of medicinal plants, students need to be familiar with integrating the concept of advanced biotechnology into the research development, health-care application and quality management.
 

Feature

Our BS Program is a multidisciplinary and collaborative research program incorporating traditional medicinal herbs as well as health care, nutrition, cosmetics and biotech pharmaceutical applications. The aim of this program is to provide students with a good knowledge of the basic and professional skills in pharmaceutical botanicals. Students will be able to carry out technical and management tasks and professional activities in the areas of cultivation of medicinal herbs, management of the quality of the processes, marketing of medicinal plants and derivatives for use in herbal, health and cosmetic products. Therefore, the undergraduate curriculum contains two modules, which are

 

1. Chinese herbal medicine: to prepare students for success in the biotech industries relating to medicinal plant production, analysis, and development.

2. Healthcare: to cultivate talents in formulating herbal remedies and developing healthcare products from medicinal herbs.
 

Curriculum

Our faculty is comprised of at least seven departments including the Department of Pharmacy, the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Cosmetic Science, Department of Health and Nutrition Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Department of Applied Life Science and Health and the Department of Information Management etc. Faculty consists of professors and adjunct members with strong backgrounds in academics and industry experience.

The undergraduate curriculum contains two modules and bachelor's degrees take a minimum of 128 credits to complete.  The goal of BS 4 year program is to produce competent professionals in the field of medicinal botany who will possess knowledge of traditional herbal systems as well as an understanding of biomedicine, pharmacology, herbal preparations, harvesting and plant identification. Students also have the skills to understand, and perform GMP compliance measurements and know how to integrate knowledge of raw materials, formulation, and herbal pharmacy for multi-purposes such as product development, quality control and marketing management.
